Sutro's at Cliff House: San Francisco

If you're looking for lunch with a view in San Francisco, Sutro's at Cliff House is the place to be. I fell in love with this place after seeing it online and I am so glad I was able to visit Sutro's on this SF trip.

Cliff House is known for it's gorgeous ocean view, just steps from an area where the city seems so far away. I actually had never gone to this side of town and wish I knew about it earlier. It is the perfect place for a date, catching up with your best friends, and/or celebrating a special occasion. My best friend and I spent a good amount of time just people watching at those at the beach below. The restaurant offers a panoramic view of the ocean and if you know me, you know that I can spend hours just staring at the sea. To be honest, I spent more time gawking at the view than the food - but the food was absolutely delicious!

The decor inside Sutro's is beautiful. While it looks pretty fancy, it is actually pretty casual and you don't have to get too dolled up for lunch. The service was up to par and the food, well, you just have to taste it for yourself because the photos do not do these plates justice. From the oysters to the steak, each dish excelled expectations. My favorite of the appetizers was the ahi tuna tartare, mixed right in front of you by the server. The truffle fries were to die for, but then again, when have you had a bad basket of fries?

Our entrees including steak and a shrimp and scallops dish, in which the scallops were seared to perfection. Dessert was a hard one, as we were so full but wanted to try at least one item. We ended up going for the passion fruit creme brûlée and totally didn't regret it.

  • Fall Salad: fuyu persimmon & spitzenberg apple carpaccio | organic baby lettuce walnut vinaigrette | blue cheese | candied walnut crumble
  • Ahi Tuna Tartare: pine nuts | asian pear | habanero infused sesame oil | mint | quail egg
  • 1/2 Dozen Oysters: bonito essence & bottarga infused champagne mignonette
  • Steak Frites: skirt steak | truffled fries | bordelaise | red wine onion compote
  • Scallops and White Gulf Shrimp Scampi:  saffron couscous | pine nut | tarragon beurre blanc | parsley jus
  • Passion Fruit Creme Brûlée

After lunch, we headed down to the coastline and watched the sunset. Plenty of photo opportunities around this place and lots of couples shooting their engagement sessions here as well. It was one of the most peaceful lunches I've had in awhile, mainly because I got to enjoy it- completely disconnected since I had no signal in the restaurant (hah - TMobile problems).

Thank you Sutro's for hosting us! We had a great time and can't wait to go back.
