Hotel Solamar
Who doesn't like champagne and chocolate strawberries? Especially when it comes with a sweet note and arrives right before dinner. Hotels should take note that I love desserts and so when you surprise me with things like this, you get an extra point :)
Located just a few blocks from Hotel Palomar, is Hotel Solamar, another Kimpton hotel and while the two are similar in name, you can immediately tell the difference upon stepping inside.
I will have to admit that Solamar needs some interior updating within the rooms, however the lobby area is beautiful and the staff is quite welcoming.
We were given a one bedroom suite with a private patio on the 4th floor, a corner room that supposedly had the best lighting - this is certainly arguable as we found it difficult to take photos.
There's a sliding door that separates the bedroom from the living room and kind of reminded me of my stay in Cabo.
While the overall ambience of the hotel was great, the one thing I really despised was the carpet. It looked old and outdated, and by old I don't mean worn out but that the design itself just didn't look appealing.
If the rest of the hotel room looked more like the bathroom, it would be a winner in my book. From the gorgeous natural lighting to the beautiful deep tub, I think I spent most of my time in the bathroom during our stay. Literally just reading a book in the tub or listening to music while I just disappeared from the rest of the world.
The private patio didn't come close to the privacy I got in the bathroom, especially after hearing cat calls from the neighbors upstairs who stuck their heads out to stare at me (because our room was on the 4th floor).
Aside from my disagreement about the carpet, our overall stay at Solamar was relaxing. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the staff was very sweet.
