Fairmont Grand Del Mar
San Diego has always been my second home and with each visit, the notion of moving there (in the future) gets stronger. With this last visit, however, I may just rethink getting a house and figure out how I can just live at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar.
It’s pretty obvious that the Fairmont family never disappoints and if you haven’t seen my other Fairmont stays, click here. We were excited to visit the Fairmont Grand Del Mar and our expectations were again, far exceeded. There were quite a few key features that made this property stand out from the others, starting with the fact that this is a gated property.
Fairmont Grand Del Mar is about 30 minutes from Gaslamp, in a quiet and reserved area where you will be guaranteed relaxation and rest during your stay. We pulled up to the gate and were greeted by the guard, who began our check-in process by sending our names to the front desk. Upon arriving at the front of the hotel, the valet staff promptly assisted us with our bags and we were checked in within minutes.
The property has three floors, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s small by any means. With a golf course, a couple gorgeous fountains, two pools, restaurant, and 249 rooms, the Fairmont Grand Del Mar is spaciously gorgeous.
Architectural beauty surrounds you in every corner you encounter, making it extremely photogenic. Make sure to take time to explore the hotel within the first day of your stay to scout out all the places you’ll be reading, writing, working, and relaxing at.
However, the best place to just simply get away would be in your room. I spent most of the evenings on our balcony, which had a pool view, and of course, ordered room service. Make sure to try the pasta, steak, and chicken noodle soup! The king-sized bed was so comfortable and hard to resist so I squeezed in a couple of naps during our stay. All about balance right?
Located on the first floor are the spa, fitness center, and adult pool. Do some laps in the pool, get a tan, and then work off all that food. In addition, there is also live entertainment on certain nights in the lobby.
If you’re itching to party or head downtown, it’s about a 30-minute Uber ride. Private transportation could also be arranged at the front desk. We were there for St. Patrick’s Day weekend so we did venture out to Gaslamp, but called it a night by 1 AM because let’s face it, I’m not 21 anymore. By the way, there’s an espresso machine included in your room and at 1 AM, nothing tastes better than coffee and the most delicious chocolate covered Oreos that turn down service leaves on your side table each evening. We might have asked housekeeping for 5 extras during our stay, that’s how good they were.
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar, simply put, is dreamy. A resort that has all you need and could ever want, and goes beyond your expectations. It’s close enough to downtown San Diego, but also far enough so you don’t have to deal with any chaos.
Thank you Fairmont Grand Del Mar for a memorable stay, we cannot wait to be back.
