We're Engaged!

Realizing I never shared the story on the blog, but if you follow me on Instagram, then you are already caught up but we’re engaged!

It’s been a little over a month since KSOLE popped the question and it’s already been a whirlwind of emotions, as we start planning for our elopement, tea ceremony, and party. Yes, three separate events, happening at three separate times! But more on all the planning and events later. Let’s share the engagement story —

KSOLE and I decided to have a staycation at the Fairmont Century Plaza, a beautiful hotel that was previously the historical Century Plaza Hotel. If you’ve been following us for a while, then you know our love for the Fairmont collection so, of course, we had to stay here. We opted for 3 days and 2 nights, just right before my birthday (which is January 19th). I decided to make the stay a birthday getaway, in which we did an early celebration with my best friends on January 16th with a private hip-hop dance class taught by my dear friend, Meagan Kong at Kong Fit Club right before checking into the Fairmont Century Plaza. After checking in, we unpacked and relaxed before getting ready for dinner downstairs at Lumiere (French cuisine). Now, I have to admit that I was hoping that the proposal would occur this night since all my closest friends were with us but I was wrong. We finished dinner 3 hours later and had an hour and a half long game of UNO in the room (in which KSOLE ended up winning).

Let me also mention that KSOLE and I have been together for 9 years, and have talked about marriage for the last year, so I knew it was going to happen but I didn’t know when. However, I did mention that I wanted him to ask before my birthday so I partially expecting it.

The next day, I had a massage scheduled at the spa and left for about 2 hours. The spa is gorgeous and features an array of amenities including a salt room. The massage was much needed and one of the best I had in a while. Upon returning to the room, I opened the door to find a path of red rose petals leading up to one of the outfits I had packed for the trip, with a note telling me to get ready and meet downstairs at Lumiere in an hour. My immediate thought was “OMG THIS IS IT!” and I proceeded to text a few of my closest friends, to which only two of the four responded which I thought was weird. My own best friends weren’t replying, which was strange but I rushed to go get ready. I actually got ready in less than 30 minutes and because my outfit was linen (prone to wrinkles), I couldn’t sit down (nor did I want to). I paced around the room for another 25 minutes before heading downstairs.

When I got to the hostess desk, she commented on how I was so punctual and went to go check to see if my table was ready. What I was completely unaware of, was the fact that the restaurant was actually not open to the public yet. I just thought we were early for dinner time (since it was 5PM). She came back and led me to the back patio doors, where she told me I had to walk the rest of the way by myself. By the way, KSOLE was not around and I thought he was running late but as soon as she opened the doors, I saw another pathway of rose petals and KSOLE standing at the end with a rose in hand. Very much Bachlor style, for someone who does not watch the Bachelor, haha.

I started bawling right away as I made my way down and while I made sure to put my phone away in my bag, I had my mask on per hotel restrictions. So while I’m walking towards KSOLE, I hear him yelling “Take your mask off!!” I take it off, but have nowhere to put it so when I reach him, he grabs it and tosses it aside. Meanwhile, I notice our friend Randall in the background, snapping away. Everything was a blur up until KSOLE got on his knee and asked “will you marry me?”

TLDR: here’s the video summary of the moment

The Fairmont staff was so kind to bring out champagne for us, as KSOLE fumbled around a bit, which I later found out was him stalling for extra time as he waited for our closest friends to show up. After a few minutes, he said “be right back” and out came out our friends to surprise me. I cried all over again because that was one request I really wanted to have, which was to have our friends and family with us for this moment and KSOLE delivered. We all went to dinner at Eataly (at Century mall) shortly after and thank you to the staff there for also being so kind & sweet when they found out we just got engaged.

The best part was listening to the stories of what the other proposal options were that KSOLE debated on, in which our friends helped steer him to this route. The proposal was perfect for me and I am so grateful that we have the best friends in the world to share this and future moments with during this wedding journey.

Also, we were featured on The Knot!

So, we’re engaged and we’re planning so be sure to follow me on Instagram and keep up to date with the blog as I share this journey.
