Organizing Our Baby’s Dresser & Closet
The secret to making sure that you’re not being asked where something is every 10 minutes? Create a key + map layout for everyone to reference, especially if you have things tucked away in drawers, and despite having each drawer labeled.
Just like how every book has an index, our baby’s dresser also has one that’s posted right on the wall (next to the dresser). The key indicates which drawer has what in it, is color-coated, and laid out accordingly from left to right (if you are standing in front of the dresser). From the diapers and wipes to the baby carrier and onesies, there is a place for everything and that is how you stay sane. No need to question where something goes after being washed (in the laundry) and no need to open every single drawer to find a pacifier. This will be especially helpful when we have some visitors over who may help out with the baby, but of course, my initial thought process of creating this was so that my husband also doesn’t have to wake me up from my naps (lol).
If you’re wondering why Baby Sole has a dresser full of clothes and a standalone closet, it is because the clothes are also separated by season, in addition to size. The clothes in the dresser are all short-sleeve onesies and/or lightweight pants since he’ll be here during spring and summers in LA get very warm. The clothes hanging in his makeshift closet are either long-sleeve onesies, some shirts, jackets, and the sizing goes up 24 months (on the far right side). The dresser items only go up to 12 months max. The closet also has his shoe collection, the start of it at least, along with an extra diaper backpack and diaper tote, and on the very bottom are some extra storage boxes as we continue to build out his wardrobe.
Hoping I can upkeep the organization and maintenance of his dresser and closet once he’s here, but I guess time will tell!
