Our Boxing-Inspired Gender Reveal
To have a gender reveal or not? If you just found out that you’re pregnant, you’re probably wondering if it’s worth it and the answer to that is whether or not you want to share this moment with friends and family, or just you and your partner. It is completely up to you!
Scrolling through social media, it’s clear that gender reveals have become a thing. Whether it’s a huge party or just an intimate cake-revealing moment, people do enjoy watching it. If you’re one of those people, click here to see ours.
THE INSPIRATION | I’ve been boxing (as a workout) for the last year and a half, and truly love it. The mental and physical challenge of it keeps me motivated, and the emotional lessons I learned so far through it, have made me a better person overall. Not to mention that the sweat session I get every time is so rewarding. So with that being said, it was a no-brainer for me to do a gender reveal that incorporated one of my passions.
THE EXECUTION | I expressed my idea to my dear friend, Rubina, who coordinated the reveal itself by finding and ordering the powder off Etsy to figuring out how to attach it to the mitts. Our gender results were given to her in an envelope and the wait itself did drive me crazy but it was well worth it.
After settling on a date for the reveal and agreeing to a location (a local park), my husband and I worked with my boxing coach to create an easy combo that we could do together. My husband doesn’t box so we kept the mitt work to a minimum while still making it look good for our audience. It took about 3 sessions total for us to get it down. However, on the day of, there were some minor difficulties with the powder itself that had us adjusting the original combo last minute. At the end of it, it all worked out and I loved how it turned out! Although, I got a lot more powder on me than I expected so beware that you may get messy. (It was easy to wash off of me with a shower but my clothes are forever stained).
IT’S A BOY | I’m not going to lie. I had a gut feeling that it was a boy but I kept saying out loud that it’ll be a girl because I wanted a girl. I did suffer a bit of gender disappointment after the reveal (and wrote a blog post about navigating it), but it faded as the weeks went by and now I cannot wait for our son to arrive.
